Sometime back, I received an email enquiry asking for a maternity photo-shoot with a special theme. Shirley wanted to have a photography theme with her beloved bike, a Suzuki Hayabusa. During her wedding, the bike was utilized for the march-in at the dinner banquet. This time round, in taking pictures to commemorate the pending arrival of a new member to the family, without a doubt, the bike has to be involved as well.

Initially, the photoshoot was to be at a workshop. But due to unforeseen circumstances, the location was changed to her dad’s factory at Defu Lane. It’s really a blessing in disguise, as the place resulted in the photos having a unique character and rustic feel to them.

Once again, this proves that good photos does not need a “proper” studio contrary to traditional beliefs. A place that has meaning and is most comfortable for the clients has so far created the best results in my experience.

Should a mother-to-be go for nude maternity photography? Is it really necessary to do such pose? What is it in nude pregnancy photography that makes it popular and commonly used pose? To whom should one pose for this kind of photography?
 
These are some questions asked when it comes to nude maternity photography. A lot of people consider that being naked in a photograph is a form of art. It is also a way of expressing oneself in front of the camera. However, this form of style has different meanings since the message of a photograph depends on the person viewing it. No matter how a nude photo is professionally done, the end user is still the one deciding what the meaning of the photograph is. A nude photo may actually look extravagant and outstanding to some, but it may also look recklessly-done for other viewers.
 
Since being nude in a photo means a thousand words, those involve in it should know the real meaning of what they are doing. In the case of pregnancy photography, the subject of the photo, which is the future mom, needs to consult the professional photographer chosen in order to know the dos and don’ts in this style of photography. There are actually hundreds of pregnant women who opt to go for nude pregnancy photography since this can be a form of expressing their love for their little one by caressing their bump in an emotional way. 4) Bring with you tube tops, halter and other fitting tops that can enhance the shape of your growing belly. The highly recommended color of tight fitting tops is skin-tone that has adjustable and removable straps.

5) Clean your nails prior the shoot. Your hands and your belly create an amazing angle for maternity photos.

The most important thing in every maternity photo session is you have to stay relaxed and calm. Maternity portrait highlights the mom and the baby bump. Look great on your photos. One of the ways to come up with the best memorable and smooth photo session is to prepare for it. Discuss with the photographer how you would want to come up with maternity portraits. Sit down with him in order for you to brainstorm ideas the output you are expecting.

Here are other specifics that must be included in your preparation for the maternity photography:
o Husband and family members are excellent addition in maternity photos. It would be great to see other important people in your life in your maternity photos.
o Your outfit is another crucial factor that you need to decide. Do you want to have topless or nude photos? Tell your photographer if he can shoot the concept you want because not all photographers can shoot topless or nude maternity photos.
o The setting that you will choose must suit your tastes and preferences. Do you want to have a studio or do you want to shoot at your place? Do you want to create a storyline on your photos? Most pregnant women would want to have it at their home because it gives intimate and homey feeling. If you want to move around comfortably, your home is a great choice.
o Props help a lot to give great impact and effects in your maternity photos. Plan what you want to have as props. Photographers who have been taking maternity photos have ready props that you can borrow and use such as toys and other baby stuff. If you will have the photo session at your place, excellent props are your baby’s furniture, baby room, toys and your own stuff.

New Paper Interview- More pregnant Singaporeans are taking portrait photos, sometimes fully nude, with their bellies in full glory

123Photography is honored to have our client Mrs Ng Bee Ling being interviewed in the Sunday 8th April New Paper. Below is an excerpt of the interview:

[Other women, like Mrs Ng Bee Ling, 32, posted her maternity photographs on social media channels such as Facebook.

Mrs Ng says: “Why not? There’s nothing wrong. And mine are not very daring.”

She was showing her belly but covered up with a tubetop and pants.

She was 32 weeks pregnant with her first child, who is now 11 months old. Her husband joined her in some of the shots taken by 123Photography.

She says that some of her friends commented, “Wow! Sexy mum!” and wanted to do a shoot like hers too.

“It’s a special memory. And when the child grows bigger, he will think ‘Oh, I was in mummy’s tummy’. They will ask you a lot of things as they grow older, so you can just show them the photos, and say ‘this was you’,” Mrs Ng says.

When she looks at the photos now, she can “still remember the foetus moving around inside me. All those feelings come rushing back.”]
